The John D. Smysor Educational Foundation, Inc. was created to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors who have a history of success in athletics and academics but need financial assistance to pursue their post-secondary education goals. The John D. Smysor Foundation wants to encourage student athletes who wish to further their academic training by offering renewable two-year scholarships of up to $4,000 for up to ten (10) eligible students each year. The program is not based on athletic or performance records alone and does not require adherence to any specific sports activity or team at an institution of higher learning. In addition, no student may receive more than one award per year.
This scholarship is intended for high school seniors who plan to enroll in a college/university and have been accepted into an undergraduate program. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has demonstrated consistent effort, commitment, and achievement throughout their high school career.
The scholarship will be awarded on academic merit, financial need and significant extracurricular activities that demonstrate leadership qualities; however community service or talent also play a role in judging applicants. Upon graduating from their undergraduate studies, awardees must live and work within one of nine central counties (LaSalle, Livingston, Macoupin, Madison, Monroe, Pike) in Illinois for at least three years following graduation date.
